Flowers and the weekend

It bloomed today! 4/12 is by far the earliest I've ever seen an iris bloom. 5/8 was the earliest date last year. Of course I didn't have this particular iris in the garden last year. Anyway, isn't it a beauty! It's such a dark purple it's almost black and has lovely bright blue beards.

My almost black hyacinth and pinkish tulip with my parrot tulips that are red! this year. Last year they were more of a yellow. You just never know do you?

Matthew and I journeyed up to visit Phil this weekend. Saturday we went to a bowling event to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. I would have taken pictures, but I couldn't get my camera to work right, probably due to a low battery. So the pictures you see here on out, were taken Sunday at Auntie's house. Auntie has the coolest kid sized bowling set that Matthew really enjoyed playing with. All I heard the night before was, "I want to play." And having to say over and over, "I'm sorry, only the big girls and boys are bowling tonight." got really old.

All weekend long Matthew pooped in the toilet! Yesterday, same story. Today, well, I guess 3 out of 5 isn't bad...after all going 5 times is rather alot. I'm guessing we are almost ready to give up pullups. Yesterday I threw away a pair because it'd been worn for 24 hrs and was literally starting to wear out. They aren't meant to stay dry of long and be pulled up and down so much.

Tonight, as I was digging nasty weeds out of my flower bed, a tractor went by. Matthew was thrilled, until Scamp decided to run down the road chasing it/running along aside it barking loudly. Matthew and I tried to call him back but after we lost sight of him, he disgustedly announced, "We need to get a new Scampie dog." I giggled to myself and decided that this quote would make the blog! Now before you feel too sorry for Scamp, just know that he came back a minute later and was received with open arms by the boy! And I continued digging nasty weeds.

While my family was celebrating Easter and enjoying being together, another family's heart was breaking as they lost their son, dad, brother, friend. A very generous guy I met last year died Easter Sunday at the young age of 41. My son doesn't take to many people right away, but he really liked Ed and asked him to hold him. And Ed in return taught Matthew to do knuckles, something he spontaneously does today. Here they are together. *Photo by Christy

Not only did Auntie bring yard toys for my parents house, she brought a set for our house as well. And I think everyday Matthew has gotten them out of the garden shed to play with them. What a great gift!

As I was trying to make a detailed map of where every plant and bulb is in my flower bed, I was shocked to see an iris ready to bloom! I wasn't looking for iris to bloom till next month. I still have tulips blooming and daffodils!

Matthew has been working really hard on toilet training. So much so, that he got me up in the middle of the night so that he could go potty. I remind him to go, but he is starting to know when he has to go himself. I love every time he announces, "I have to go potty!" and runs off to do it! He has had some toilet success with #2's and even went outside. We are down to 1 or 2 pullups a day. Another thing he is loving to do at the moment is sing the ABC's to anyone and everyone. And most of the time he's getting it right with no to few errors. And that's the way the world spins around Matthew!

When he picked up the big egg he's going for Matthew said, "What egg is this?" He then dropped the egg and said, "I don't need this one!" We laughed so hard and told him he might as well take it anyway!

After this it was hurry all 3 adults and one small boy through the shower and into the car to eat Easter dinner with my parents and Auntie. After lunch we visited my Grandmom, who was surprised to discover the Easter bunny left stuff for her too! We were were looking all cute and dressed up, and wouldn't you know, no one took a picture.

The KC Easter bunny sent alot of yummy stuff down with Auntie. She brought all these great trucks and digging equipment for yard season at my parents. Matthew was beyond excited and proceed to waste no time using them. The Easter bunny that stops at my parents also left tons to eat, so we have a very very full candy bowl around here. I'm thinking my waistline in suffering for it! Hope the Easter Bunny was good to all of you!

We live in an area where it is possible to hit 2, if not 3 Easter egg hunts. This year we decided to step into the big leagues and go to 2. Matthew still needs lots of coaching to get the eggs. He will literally just pass them all by if we don't tell him to stop. But luckily for him he had not 2 but 3 people to help find eggs with him. Angela is staying the weekend with us and got to experience the egg hunt with us. In a few minutes we will dye Easter eggs for Matthew to find outside tomorrow. Happy Easter everyone!

I think it's finally spring!

It is SPRING! I think it is finally here!

Another sign spring is here, is the smell of pasture fires and smoke in the air. Not to mention the spring peeper frogs are peeping and I think I saw a mosquito. This also doesn't take into account the fact it's been around 80's.

Last summer I thought there was an oriole nest in the tree in front of our house. Now that the leaves are off I can see it! It made it through the winter, so maybe more oriole babies will be raised there this summer.

Oh I almost forgot say that Matthew has been helping me plant black hollyhock seeds and Hungarian blue breadseed poppies today. The seeds of the poppy are actually edible. Since it is edible do you think it will count as an entry in a kid gardening contest? Probably not, rats. I guess we'll have to plant some tomatoes or carrots or something somewhere...

Doing military chin-ups. We went to a military event the guys held. I should have taken a picture of the Army Hummer. It's pretty cool. While we were there a lady and her son came by. She said the reason they stopped was because her 9 yr old son was a huge fan of the Army and wanted to enlist at 18 to be a snipper. She said at every birthday they celebrate it's only so many more yrs till he can join. The son was in heaven to receive so much cool stuff. I thought it was cool how calmly the lady accepted her young son's decision.

It's good! Matthew would have played basketball all day if I would have let him. He absolutely adores it.

Elite 8!

Thursday, on the day of our teams Sweet 16 game, we declared it K-State day at daycare. All but one family is big fans, so here is most of the kiddos showing their Purple Pride. It's times like these that I wish we had a girl, because the cheerleader outfits are so cute. We barely won that nail biting game and have moved to the Elite 8. Crossing fingers we win! We haven't made it this far since '51. Go K-State!

More spring break pictures

The Grandparents and I took Matthew to the park one day over Spring Break and he LOVED it! Going to the park with Grandparents are the best!

Another day over break Mom came and spent the day playing with Matthew will I worked on spring cleaning. I got a far amount done and Matthew and his Mamaw did alot of building.

I am so annoyed! I spent an hour uploading alot of photos taken over break only to have Blogger refuse to publish it because it had a Meta that it didn't like! Like I know what a Meta is and how to fix it. They even showed me the string of computer gibberish that it had beef with, that only a computer tech would understand. So I finally caved after another 15 mins and deleted the whole thing. I did everything exactly like I always do, so either the site messed up, or it dislikes one of my photos, which would be weirder yet. That's all I can come up with since I don't wrote computer codes. So tonight all anyone gets are the first 2 pics of spring break. I'm not uploading 10 to 15 again, just to go through the same "Meta" situation!
