San Antonio trip days 3 & 4

Friday, Phil took the day off, so we slept in. Then we got up and took Matthew to his first ever movie in the movie theater. We hoped to see Cars 2, but Matthew picked Winnie the Pooh. It was cute and short. After that we went home, ate, and relaxed. Then we took off to go bowling and have supper at the bowling alley.

It was the first time Mom had bowled in 36 years. Matthew looked so cute in his bowling shoes I wanted to take them home. He was so excited! He has obviously gotten that from his dad and Grandma Bev.

Then we went shopping for groceries for Phil and scored a kick board for Matthew. So of course we had to go swimming again.

Saturday was another slow start. Then we got into 2 movies on tv. After we tore ourselves away, we headed back downtown. Some of the architecture was just awesome.

We drove right by the Tower of the Americas, but we decided that it's restraurant was too expensive and Phil didn't want to go to the top just for the view, so we didn't go see it.

My Dad highly recommended going to see The Alamo, so we headed to find it. Turns out we drove by it the first night and didn't realize it.

These were the barracks. *photos by Mom

Mom and Matthew in front. They consider it a shrine, so we aren't allowed to take photos inside.

Here we are on the street side. *photo by Mom

After looking at The Alamo, we went looking around at stores and buildings in the area. I found a clothing store that had all it's clothes 50% off and got a couple things. I would have liked to get a ring too, but Phil wasn't springing for it. After that we cruised the Ripley's strip trying to figure out what we wanted to pay big bucks to see. We finally decided on the Ripley's Believe it or Not!, but Matthew was scared so he had to be carried in. He still calls it the weird museum. Today he called it the fake museum. Hmmmm....

While in Ripley's Believe It or Not! there was a couple spots for kids to play. Here is Matthew on the largest tire in the world. *photo by Mom

And here he is in a weird tunnel that I refused to go through. Good thing Phil was there! *photo by Mom

After that, we were tired and hungry, so we went and found the Brazil steakhouse Phil wanted to try, but it ended up being $42 a plate per person, so off we went to the Riverwalk again. This time, we decided to eat at a Tex-Mex restraurant, on it's balcony.

I was staring at the Tower of the Americas.

To my right was Coyote Ugly. We'd fallen in love with their huge flags.

To my left was the river and stores up and down. It's amazing maze of levels and buildings down there. A few minutes after our food came, a small storm fueled by the tropical depression at the coast, came through and we had to go in. We were supposed to take Mom to the beach, but weren't able to because of the storm.

Here is Phil and I going over one of the many bridges the first day. *photo by Mom

Somehow we got free tickets to the wax museum, so after we ate, we went through. I finally got to meet Sarah Jessica Parker. I don't think they did her justice. She looks a little scary. *photo by Phil

Then we walked back to the car and went home to, you guessed it, swim! Matthew would have been fine living in the pool, I think. And that is the whole trip in a nutshell!

Spring fling

We set out on a trip back home to do taxes among other things. Some of those other things included making sandwiches and eating them on the way at a random stop in OK...

...And finding little houses at that stop that delighted little boys...

...Saw little friends for the last time before kindergarten at least...

...pretended to be leprechauns with our very best friend at story time on St. Patrick's Day...

...We walked the trail and discussed tracks we found. Lots of stuff we learned on the trail.

We enjoyed the beauty of the old. Much older then we... *photo by Phil

...of much younger then us... *photo by Phil

...Small dogs got all tangled up... *photo by Phil

...Others were just magnificent... *photo by Phil

...A small boy and aunt dance the day away...

...while on another day the small boy finds eggs...

...good ole KS bunny...

...new plants are planted happily...

... and animals are spotted eating other animals food.

Happy Spring!

Photo's in no particular order or date and PS it did snow flurry at our house Sat. night

Another fine example of why Phil isn't allowed to use the camera. He took the picture and then snickered, "Right up the nose." Nice.

This is a picture of a neighbor up the roads Halloween display. If you click on it I think you can see it better. I obviously moved the camera, but I was in a hurry because it was 12:15 am, they were up and my flash was going off, as I was parked outside their house. I didn't want to freak them out...

Saturday we went to see my very good friend Jenny. Matthew insisted she help him get his socks and shoes on. I thought it was so cute I tried to take a picture. She tried to hide. By the way Jenny, Matthew remembered that car he didn't get to ride all day long! He cried the last 30 mins. of the trip home because we were to go back to Jenny's to ride the car! What a day.

Matthew's favorite thing to do is roll around in his dump truck's bed. Every now and then it bucks him off.

Did anyone call the Halloween bellhop?

What he really has on his head is a box.

This was taken a week ago. When I left to get my camera there were 2 of them.

Back in Sept., I noticed 2 huge owls on my silo at dusk. This and the next picture are from that first night. This is my favorite because their eyes are glowing in this one. And the one on the right is talking to the other. That's why it's stretched out.

My son, my husband

Such a happy boy. He delighted himself.

Cheese! Then he looked at the picture and said, "I'm funny!"

Lego mania...

knows no bounds.

This is why I'm never in pictures. Because my husband cannot be trusted with the camera.

He just hasn't learned which side of a person you are supposed take yet. I'm hoping in another 30 years...

I was telling a cousin of mine, via email, that Matthew and I stopped by my friends house yesterday, to chat and pick up his birthday gift. Love her if she doesn't give the best gifts, but she's a terror to the house-ly calm. You see, she is converting my small child to what she calls "the Lego religion." His first birthday he received a tub. This year she decided that, that tub didn't have enough so she upgraded the tub size. Matthew's in heaven and I'm in...well slight panic about trying to keep all 104 legos together. I kid...sortof. I used to count them when there was only 33...So now I'm helping snap together his bigger and better creations. He loves this set because it came with the car base.

Everything in Matthew's world is "mine." Now we have power struggles over Mom's cell phone (mine) and Scamp and Missy's ball (mine) and the family tv remote (mine). But yesterday he labeled something as "mine" and I could not argue with it. It was the sweetest "mine" ever. While we were driving in the car he kept smiling and saying, "MY Poppa" and some "MY Grandma." No argument here. They are his, because they are MY parents!

Along with "mine" "I'm funny" has become a comment and excuse. I kicked the dog because "I'm funny." He has alot to learn. Another thing he's learned is to identify himself in photos as Matthew. I'm very excited about that. He's been saying everyone's name, but himself. He did it last Wed, but he really got going today with it.
